Chicago Bears: BGO Consensus top-five defensive draft prospect rankings
It is Draft Day. We are here and ready, but due to time constraints, I was unable to provide our consensus top-five defensive rankings. Therefore, I am going to push this out and it will be very short and sweet. This unfortunately means there will be fewer details specific to each player though too.
If a player from this list ends up being drafted by the Chicago Bears tonight, that is not a bad thing. However, I personally hope their focus is centered on a quarterback, the offensive tackle or a wide receiver before considering a defensive player. The only position on defense I would be okay with them taking in the first round is cornerback.
If one of these defensive players should fall far enough, then they would be a steal in the second or third round. That said, I doubt many, if any, reach the 52nd overall pick. That said, let’s take a look at who we find to be the top of this defensive draft class.
Chicago Bears: BGO Consensus Top-5 Defensive Linemen
- Christian Barmore
- Levi Onwuzurike
- Alim McNeill
- Daviyon Nixon
As far as number five is concerned, we had our one and only tie here. Marlon Tuipulotu and Marvin Wilson round out the last of our defensive linemen. Christian Barmore is the cream of the crop in this class. I wouldn’t touch any of the others in the first round.
Chicago Bears: BGO Consensus Top-5 Inside Linebackers
- Micah Parsons
- Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah
- Zaven Collins
- Nick Bolton
- Jabril Cox
I would be very shocked if one of these guys landed with the Chicago Bears after the first two days of the draft. Expect to see them elsewhere. In fact, Micah Parsons could be a guy we see play for Detroit, which would vastly improve their defense.
Chicago Bears: BGO Consensus Top-5 EDGE Rushers
- Kwity Paye
- Azeez Ojulari
- Jaelan Phillips
- Joseph Ossai
- Gregory Rousseau
When it comes to the EDGE rushers in this draft, not one of them stands out to me as a must-have. Should the team land Kwity Paye at 20, that’s not a bad value, but just does not meet the true needs of this team. No thank you.
Chicago Bears: BGO Consensus Top-5 Cornerbacks
- Patrick Surtain II
- Jaycee Horn
- Caleb Farley
- Greg Newsome II
- Asante Samuel Jr.
As I previously stated, this is the only position I would be happy to see the Chicago Bears draft on defense. When it comes to this group, I’d be fine with literally every single one of them, but only Patrick Surtain and Jaycee Horn I’d like to see at 20. Caleb Farley, Greg Newsome and Asante Samuel are more like late, first-round picks to me.
Chicago Bears: BGO Consensus Top-5 Safeties
- Trevon Moehrig
- Jevon Holland
- Richie Grant
- Jamar Johnson
- Andre Cisco
We are now down to the final grouping of defensive players. Trevon Moehrig is going to be an amazing player in this league. I would not be too upset if he landed with the Chicago Bears at 20, but he also is not the guy I want to see drafted. There are better options at other positions that make more sense. Guys who can actually bring more value to the team in the short term too.
Final Thoughts:
Let’s just sit back and enjoy the draft process. We can discuss the rest tomorrow and over the weekend. Try not to get too emotional right away, at least give them the weekend to see the full draft outcome.
