Chicago Bears: Day 2 targets after drafting Justin Fields
The Chicago Bears should take any of these players should they fall to the third
Again, the Chicago Bears should be happy with the way this draft has played out. Picking 20th in the second round and still seeing a handful of players with grades good enough to be first-rounders is exciting. Even more exciting is that the three positions the Chicago Bears need most are very deep. Here are the key players the Chicago Bears should look to draft.
Tyson Campbell, CB – Georgia
My hope is that the team lands a wide receiver or offensive tackle in the second round. This will depend on who is available. Offensive tackle would be my first choice at 52 and receiver in the third round would be my second choice, but corner is a position of need too. Tyson Campbell would fit the bill of great value here at 83. He is a big corner at 6’2″ and 185 pounds. A five-star recruit, Campbell should work his way up the depth chart and become a starting corner rather quickly.
Jamar Johnson, S – Indiana
Although safety is not as big of a need, it is still a weaker position for the Bears as far as depth is concerned. Bringing back both Tashaun Gipson and Deon Bush definitely helps, but I would not hate if Ryan Pace switched to the defensive side of the ball for a guy like Jamar Johnson. Johnson has the ability to make big plays and finished with six interceptions between the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
Aaron Banks, IOL – Notre Dame
The Chicago Bears seem to be set on the interior offensive line, but you can never have enough good offensive linemen and Aaron Banks fits the bill as a future starting offensive guard in the NFL. Banks has good size and power. He has the potential to force Cody Whitehair back to center as he lines up at guard.
Nico Collins, WR – Michigan
Another wide receiver with some size to play on the outside is Nico Collins. Collins is a bit of a wildcard. He has the size and abilities most teams like to see out of a receiver, but not seeing him play in 2020 is going to hurt his draft stock. In 2018, Collins came away with six touchdowns and he had seven in 2019. He could project to be a better NFL receiver than he was in college as Michigan’s passing attack was never elite.
Jaylen Mayfield, OT – Michigan
Back-to-back Michigan players on this list here. Mayfield has been falling down many boards, but if the Chicago Bears could land him in the third round, that would be a great value. Mayfield does not have the coveted arm length to play left tackle but he could push to start at right tackle by 2022 and adds some solid depth should injuries occur here in 2021.
Other names to consider in the third:
- Jackson Carman, OL – Clemson
- Kendrick Green, C – Illinois
- Spencer Brown, OT – Northern Iowa
- Brady Christensen, OT – BYU
- Stone Forsythe, OT – Florida
- Quinn Meinerz, C – Wisconsin Whitewater
- Amari Rodgers, WR – Clemson
- Cornell Powell, WR – Clemson
- Anthony Schwartz, WR – Auburn
As you can see, there are plenty of great players to choose from who are left on the board. All of these guys could make an immediate impact. I did not even cover other positions that could still return great value too. Plenty of solid EDGE rushers are left on the board to go along with defensive tackles. Now that they have Justin Fields, everything just feels like it’s going to be better.
