Chicago Bears: Aaron Rodgers possibly leaving Green Bay is bittersweet
By Dakota Wayne
Now, why is the current NFC North’s owner, Aaron Rodgers, and his possible departure from the Green Bay Packers actually bittersweet in thought? Well, let’s start with the “sweet” of bittersweet. Aaron Rodgers leaving the Green Bay Packers gives the Bears possibly two fewer games against him. That is an automatic win. For most Chicago Bears fans, this seems like the obvious best part of the situation.
However, there is some “bitter” to the sweet, too. For anyone that has ever had someone that beat them many, many times, getting that sweet revenge always feels good in sports. That’s why underdog stories are fun to root for.
The Underdog Chicago Bears could be over
That underdog story goes down the drain a bit when the Chicago Bears become the favorite if Aaron Rodgers leaves. Now, is that completely fair to Jordan Love? No, but whenever you’re moving on from the year’s previous MVP, it’s almost guaranteed to be disappointing regardless of what follows.
Since Rodgers took over in Green Bay, he has a 21-5 regular-season record with a 1-0 post-season record against the Bears. So, while the Monsters of the Midway “got theirs” in five out of 26 games, it’s almost not worth celebrating– even though there definitely was celebrating during those five wins.
Similarly to not being able to fully celebrate and feel confident doing so against the Packers due to statistical matchups, it’s almost like being a Bears fan bragging over Detroit Lions fans; it doesn’t feel the same just because their fan base is almost expecting a lack of results, though things are looking on the rise in Detroit.
However, at the end of the day, I’m not sure how confident I am in saying that Chicago Bears fans will ever not love beating up on their northern foes. I will say that I’m sure it would feel better beating the guy that has beaten them for quite a long time.
