4. Trevis Gipson
There was a lot of talks that edge rusher was a need for the Chicago Bears. Most of it was the media’s way to crap on the Robert Quinn signing by saying that they cannot go into next season trusting him.
However, beyond Quinn having a contract that makes him tough to move, the Bears signed Jeremiah Attachou, and drafted Trevis Gipson. The Bears traded a pick in this draft for Gipson, so they can essentially say that he is their 2021 draft pick at the position.
Still, he was a rookie last season, that was real. He was not good as a rookie and struggled to get snaps over James Vaughters, who is a journeyman with no real NFL experience.
The pick that went to Gipson was Cam Bynum, and edge rushers who went after his slot were Janarious Robinson, Josh Kaindoh, and Daelin Hayes.
So, in the long run, the Chicago Bears bet on Gipson more than they did wanting the chance at one of those edge rushers. While Gipson is still a fourth edge rusher, and potentially still even the number five, it is fair to say that if they drafted someone this weekend, he would have been deemed an early bust. However, he was not.
