Chicago Bears fans thank you Philadelphia Eagles

Let me first praise the team that helped ruin the Chicago Bears 2018 season when Cody Parkey forever double-doinked his way into infamy. That one event sparked an aftereffect that has trickled down and down until what occurred in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Alright, that might be taking it too far. In fact, let me praise you for the events that took place all the way back in 2017 when Carson Wentz, who at the time was an NFL MVP candidate, went down with an injury that led to the rise of Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl run. This in turn led to the resurrection of the Foles statue and coinciding placement of Foles inside Wentz’s head. Yes, he lives there rent-free too.

With all of this drama going on inside your organization, not only was Doug Pederson fired, but Wentz was also traded to the Indianapolis Colts. This removed one of the other quarterback-needy teams off the list as potential teams that could have traded up prior to the Chicago Bears. Is it possible that the Colts could have offered one of the teams within the eight to 12 range enough draft capital to move up to grab him? Sure, and if they had we’d be having a very, very different conversation right now.

Not to mention, what if the Chicago Bears landed Carson Wentz instead? Rumors were hot and heavy that the two final teams in trade talks were the Bears and the Colts. Thank you for not lowering your asking price enough for Ryan Pace to offer a fair enough trade.

This is not where my thank yous end for the Philadelphia Eagles though. No, we Chicago Bears fans thank you for the aggressiveness your organization made by leapfrogging the New York Giants to move up from 12th overall to 10th overall by making a trade with your divisional rival Dallas Cowboys. Rumors were that the Giants wanted to select DeVonta Smith. However, by trading up with the Cowboys, your organization (Eagles) took Smith — keeping him from New York.
