Post-NFL Draft must-sign free agents for the Chicago Bears: LB Kwon Alexander

One major name still available on the free agent market is linebacker Kwon Alexander. The 26-year-old spent his first four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and earned one Pro Bowl nod. He’s been one of the better outside linebackers in football over the last few seasons, but after his time in Tampa Bay, things have gotten a little inconsistent for Alexander.

He spent a year and a half with the San Francisco 49ers and also a half a season with the New Orleans Saints. The problem has been with his health. Alexander has missed several games over the last few seasons and is currently coming off an Achilles injury suffered this past year.

Alexander’s road to recovery is a long one, as is any Achilles rehab. However, he is still so young and has the potential to come back and play great football. If the Bears are a team willing to take a chance on him, they could help work him back into the player he once was by playing next to Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn.

If Chicago’s backups at the outside linebacker spots were Jeremiah Attaochu and Alexander, their linebacker room has the potential to be scary. Should Alexander be able to come back healthy and play good football, the Bears defense might be fighting for the top spot in football due to how great their linebacker room is.
