This Chicago Bears undrafted free agent is a former player clone

Charles Snowden of the Chicago Bears will remind people of Leonard Floyd because of his size and characteristics. However, Snowden primarily played on the edge, unlike Floyd, who was deployed all over the field. Snowden is listed at 6’6″ and 243 pounds. He is not a refined edge rusher, but he is a run-stopping and coverage machine. Snowden finished his career with 15 sacks in four years, 191 total tackles, and 30.5 tackles for loss.

Like Schaffer, Snowden was on the verge of a breakout year, his final year in college. Snowden missed two games his last year but posted the most sacks (six) and second-most tackles for loss (10) his final year in college. Snowden could become the 3-4 edge defender that has been lacking since the Chicago Bears released Floyd.

Snowden is a see-it and stop-it defender. I would not expect many sacks from him, but Snowden could stop just about anything coming his way in their base format. PFF compared him to Kawhi Leonard, and Snowden could become “The Claw,” gobbling up anything that comes his way.

The Chicago Bears seem to have a significant focus on the defensive tackle position. That does not make well for Akeim Hicks, but they must know that they need to find the next Hicks soon before Hicks runs out of gas. Defensive tackle Sam Kamara of Stony Brook is one of three defensive tackles added to the roster. Kamara is a bit undersized for the defensive tackle and end position. Kamara is listed at 6’2″ and 275 pounds.

It makes me wonder if the plan is to keep him on the interior or move him out to the edge. Kamara finished his career with 15 sacks over five years,  110 tackles, and 24 tackles for loss. Running back CJ Marable of Coastal Carolina was part of their historical run this past season. Coastal Carolina won 11 games and lost one. Marable rushed for 2,691 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 703 receiving yards with 12 receiving touchdowns.

It is hard to pinpoint who the team’s star was with Coastal Carolina, but Marable did his part. Marable is built much like Khalil Herbert and has similar athletism. Marable comes with kick return experience and should provide solid competition with Herbert as he is a clone of him but played against lesser competition. May the best man win.
