Value free agents available for the Chicago Bears: OT Cameron Fleming

Before the draft, the Bears desperately needed to add an offensive tackle or two. Fortunately, they did just that when they traded up for Oklahoma State tackle Teven Jenkins and later drafted Larry Borom out of Missouri.

Just days after the draft, though, the Bears released Charles Leno, which meant they would be moving on from both of their starting tackles from a year ago (Bobby Massie). Now, the pressure is truly on the second-round rookie, Jenkins.

The Bears have some other candidates to compete at tackle, including Germain Ifedi (who might be a better fit at guard, in the end) and Elijah Wilkinson. But, if they wanted to add another guy to compete for a spot on the roster, veteran Cameron Fleming would make sense.

Fleming spent several years as a reserve for the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys before starting all 16 games for the New York Giants last year. New York’s line, as a whole, was one of the worst units in football in 2020. However, Fleming would not come in as a starter. He would be an ideal candidate to fill in once and a while, and would first have to beat out a couple of other guys in camp.
