Chicago Bears: 5 teams that could trade for Nick Foles
By Braden Fogal
Chicago Bears could send Nick Foles to mentor Zach Wilson on the New York Jets
This spot just makes too much sense for Nick Foles and the Jets. New York believes it has its quarterback of the future in Zach Wilson, but the rookie is still 21 years old and needs a mentor if he’s going to be good enough by Week 1.
If general manager Joe Douglas and coach Robert Saleh want to help Wilson succeed, they need a quality backup that can show the young talent calling plays the ropes. Especially when some experts are comparing Wilson’s arm talent and playmaking ability to Patrick Mahomes.
The Jets had Joe Flacco backing up Sam Darnold in 2020. Clearly, the organization understands getting a veteran in there to help. But with Darnold now in Carolina and Flacco playing in Philadelphia, New York’s only options behind Wilson are James Morgan and Mike White.
Who are those guys? — you might ask. Morgan was a fourth-round draft pick by the Jets in 2020 out of Florida International and Bowling Green (fitting colors), while White was a fifth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys out of South Florida and Western Kentucky in 2018.
Considering Morgan has never completed an NFL pass, the coolest thing you’ll find on him is his Twitter name: @Jmoneyyy12. Maybe with a handle like that he could be a dominant backup to Wilson. White has also never completed a meaningful pass, but there’s always a first time for everything if the Jets decide not to trade for Foles or sign another back up.
My honorable mention would actually be the Panthers trading for Foles to back up Darnold.
