Chicago Bears Free Agent Target: Kwon Alexander, ILB

The last player on the list is probably the riskiest. In fact, he won’t even be ready by the start of the 2021 NFL Season. He’d make a great addition for a playoff push though. What makes sense here too is that if he proves himself as a rotational guy in 2020, the Chicago Bears could look to add him as the Danny Trevathan replacement.

Alexander is only 26 years old. Despite his recent injury history, he has been known as a dominant middle linebacker while he played in Tampa Bay. In 2016, Alexander led the league with 108 solo tackles. Although he is not likely to see that type of production again, he still brings serious upside and experience to the inside linebacker position that none of the others behind Trevathan and Roquan Smith have.

If the Chicago Bears want to look at a player they can bring in now versus waiting on Alexander getting healthy again, Avery Williamson could be another option here. Williamson has a proven track record and still brings experience most the other linebackers do not have. Should Roquan Smith or Danny Trevathan get hurt, Williamson could step in and start without a problem. He could also take over the starting spot should Trevathan struggle to start the year again.

Final Thoughts:

As I said, the Chicago Bears cannot sign all of these players. One or two seem more likely. If I had to choose, I’d prefer to see Steven Nelson and Russell Okung as the top two free agents to target. However, I’d be happy with any of them.
