Chicago Bears: 3 things Justin Fields proved at rookie minicamp
By Ryan Heckman
Justin Fields proved he will be the Chicago Bears starting quarterback sooner than later
Like he will be asked for the next three months, Fields was questioned about becoming the Bears’ starting quarterback. Once again, his response was pretty clear-cut. He told reporters, “Of course I’m going to do everything I can” to supplant Andy Dalton and become the franchise’s starter under center.
The difference between previous Bears quarterbacks potentially making a statement like that and Fields? You can tell Fields is different. You can tell his attitude is different. When he says he’s going to do everything he can to become the starting quarterback, nobody questions him.
It was only his first time on the field in Chicago, but Fields looked excellent by all accounts. Local media said he looked sharp, focused and downright impressive. His fellow rookie teammates all spoke highly of him as well, with running back Khalil Herbert letting media know that Fields ensured everybody knew the play, cadence, etc. on every down.
Fields may already be the most talented quarterback this franchise has ever seen, and it’s evident. You can feel it. Pretty soon, you’re going to see it — and it’ll come much sooner than some think. In fact, I’d be shocked if he didn’t start Week 1.
