Chicago Bears players who will be gone after 2021: Desmond Trufant

When the Bears cut ties with Kyle Fuller, they brought in veteran Desmond Trufant to take his place. Over the years, Trufant has been a pretty solid corner when healthy. However, that’s the biggest issue with him over the last couple of seasons. He’s had a tough time staying on the field.

It’s hard to imagine Trufant playing all 16 games for the Bears in 2021 based on his recent history. Thus, his 1-year deal will probably lead to him enduring a short stay in Chicago. Next year, the Bears will look to find a long-term replacement to go with Jaylon Johnson, while Trufant finds yet another team.

For right now, Chicago just needs Trufant to be able to play in the majority of games this coming season. Their depth at cornerback isn’t necessarily a strength at the moment, with guys like Kindle Vildor, Duke Shelley, Artie Burns and rookie Thomas Graham Jr. behind the starters.

If Trufant can hold down the fort for just one year in Chicago, that’s probably all they’d ask from him before moving on in 2022.
