The next few months will be dominated by the debate over when Justin Fields should start for the Chicago Bears.
Whether we’re talking fans, analysts, experts or local media, this will be the one topic that is at the forefront of everyone’s mind.
From the moment the Bears moved up to select Fields, there were plenty who believed they should start him immediately. Why waste even another game or two of this roster? These guys are ready to win right now, and they need the right quarterback to do so.
Coaches are always making the statement regarding what’s best for the team. Doing what’s best for the team, and what puts them in the best position to win, is most important. If you ask an expert like Cris Collinsworth, even he’ll tell you the right move would be to start Fields Week 1.
When the Chicago Bears end up starting Justin Fields, he could do some damage
If Fields were to get the start right away, he’d have a big test ahead of him. The Bears take on the Los Angeles Rams in prime time Week 1. Fields would see the likes of Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey, on the road and under the lights.
That may not be the perfect game for Fields to break out, but it would be one heck of a test, that’s for sure. He’d be going up against the best interior lineman in the league, paired up with the NFL’s top cornerback who has a bit of extra motivation now.
As Fields becomes more accustomed to being the Bears’ starter, there are a few teams on this 2021 schedule that present some intriguing matchups. Even against some good teams, Fields may end up breaking out and torching these defenses.
