The Chicago Bears held press conferences yesterday to discuss how things have been going at Organized Team Activities (OTAs). Honestly, there is not much to decipher here and things are going pretty much as expected. Andy Dalton saw the starter’s share of snaps, while Justin Fields took the backup snaps. Nick Foles was not in attendance (Matt Nagy said for personal reasons), but Foles would have seen QB3 reps.

One surprising event was that the only starter on defense to show up was Roquan Smith. It might be important to note that Desmond Trufant was there also, but I guess we aren’t calling him a starter yet? Or maybe the report was referring to prior-year starters? Who knows. Either way, most of the veteran defensive starters did not come to OTAs and maybe we should not be that surprised by it — these are voluntary after all.

Although, on the offensive side of the ball, most players reported. The only two notables missing were Nick Foles and Allen Robinson. With Robinson’s contract not guaranteed, it makes sense for him to not show up for a voluntary practice. Should he get hurt, he could end up with nothing.

Speaking of injuries. Dazz Newsome reportedly broke his collar bone at Tuesday’s practice and will need surgery. The only positive is that he should be back for training camp. This is the slower time of the year for Chicago Bears news, but man does it feel good to have football back in nearly full swing after a crazy offseason last year.

Now, with the situation playing out at the Chicago Bears quarterback position, it makes zero sense for the team to hold onto Nick Foles. Cutting him is not an option and I know trading him will not be easy. However, there are still teams out there that could use a solid veteran presence behind their ‘QB1’.
