Podcast: Chicago Bears defensive line preview
By Will DeWitt
There have been quite a few changes for the Chicago Bears defensive line this offseason.
This year, we will get a familiar face returning to Halas Hall as Eddie Goldman is set to take the field after taking last season off due to COVID concerns. Mario Edwards Jr. also earned himself a brand-new contract after putting up impressive numbers as a part of the Bears’ defensive line rotation a year ago.
Some well-known players are now gone like Roy Robertson-Harris, fan-favorite Brent Urban and John Jenkins as each of the players signed with new teams.
Akiem Hicks isn’t getting any younger, and Bilal Nichols is coming off a break-out year.
So what does this all mean for the Chicago Bears?
In this episode of The Chicago Audible, the guys continue their annual summer series “Countdown to Camp” — where they go episode-by-episode previewing every position (and player) on the Chicago Bears — and for the second-consecutive week, the guys keep it down in the trenches with this in-depth discussion on the defensive line.
Listen as the guys discuss how much gas is left in the tank for Akiem Hicks, if Bilal Nichols can build off his breakout year, how Eddie Goldman’s impacts the unit (and entire defense), why Mario Edwards Jr. should live up to his new contract, what to expect from newcomer Angelo Blackson, and much more!
The guys also make some bold predictions for the unit, play some over/under and discuss a few additional superlatives along the way. And of course, they stay true to form (adhering to their promise to discuss every player on the roster heading into training camp) by making sure they share which players fighting for roster spots have the best chance of making the team.
Who will be a part of the rotation come Week 1, and what are the reasonable expectations (and burning questions) for each defensive linemen heading into this season?
As always, the guys at The Chicago Audible, have you covered.
