5 comparisons to Cole Kmet rookie season with Chicago Bears
1. Martellus Bennett
This is a reaffirming comparison in a lot of ways. To start, when I wrote out the best comparisons for Kmet career-wise, the name that I came to in conclusion was Martellus Bennett. Athletically and size-wise they had a lot in common, and Bennett was the 61st overall pick which makes him and Kmet both second-round picks.
Beyond that, both were under 30 catches and 300 yards as rookies, despite being contributors.

2 | Cole Kmet | 2020 | 2020 | 2 | 16 | 28 | 243 | 2 | 8.7 | 38 |
Bennett did have 40 more yards, despite eight fewer catches. That is some explosion that we did not see from Kmet. Still, the numbers overall are very close, and if you were to use the comparison of Bennett pre-draft, you would have expected Kmet to be in the 25 catch, 250-yard range based on this.
Bennett had a 64 blocking grade, compared to the 57 of Kmet. It is a slight upgrade, but not much. Still, overall if Kmet is a slight bit lesser than Bennett, it is still a long and solid career as a starting tight end and contributor to many good offenses.
Would you be satisfied with Cole Kmet if he turned out to have a career like Martellus Bennett? From the draft through today they are on a similar trajectory.
