Chicago Bears: 3 advantages Justin Fields has over Andy Dalton
By Ryan Heckman
3. Justin Fields has had teammates buzzing from the get-go
From the moment the Bears drafted Fields, his teammates have been ecstatic. Right as Fields’ name was announced that night, veteran safety Eddie Jackson threw shade at every quarterback he’s played with in Chicago — yet at the same time, gave a huge vote of confidence to Fields.
One of the Bears’ defensive leaders was on board right away. Did we hear the same excitement after Chicago signed Dalton? Absolutely not. That speaks volumes about this franchise’s decision to draft Fields.
It’s not just Jackson who’s impressed with Fields. At OTAs this week, running back David Montgomery had some high praise for his rookie quarterback.
Montgomery is a notoriously quiet player, but for him to speak out so highly about Justin Fields says a lot.
We haven’t heard much from Bears players on the opportunity to play with Dalton. In fact, I don’t believe we’ve heard anything at all. The only thing we saw after the Dalton signing was fans in an uproar and Lance Briggs tweeting a face palm after he heard the news.
The support for Justin Fields is growing by the day. Pretty soon, it’s going to be blatantly obvious who the players want to be the team’s starting quarterback. If there’s a gut feeling about players wanting a certain guy to start, and it’s only summer, then Nagy has to start paying closer attention to his team.
Fields is going to get this job much sooner than some of the national media believes. And when he does, there’s no reason for anybody to be surprised.
