Chicago Bears: 5 players who could surprisingly still be cut
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears could opt to cut Riley Ridley
After drafting Riley Ridley as a fourth-round pick a couple of years ago, the Bears have hardly used him. Ridley hasn’t seen the field nearly as much as anyone would have thought, especially as one of the best route runners in his draft class.
Wide receivers coach Mike Furrey alluded to the fact that it was taking Ridley a while to learn the playbook at one point, and maybe that’s why he has rarely seen the field. Now, Ridley has more competition around him than ever before.
The Bears have locks in guys like Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney. But, beyond those two, it’s going to be a fierce competition for the remaining spots. Chicago drafted Dazz Newsome, whom they like a lot and he’ll absolutely make the roster even as a sixth-rounder.
The team also added Marquise Goodwin and Damiere Byrd, to give this offense a lot of speed. In addition to those two, the Bears still have Anthony Miller (who could also be cut) as well as Javon Wims.
There are a lot of receivers fighting for a spot on this roster, which is something Matt Nagy has to love. He has plenty of weapons at his disposal for the 2021 season, and now it’s just about figuring out which ones fill out the final roster.
