Chicago Bears Position Groups: No. 2 – Safety

An underrated group for the Chicago Bears, safety is one of the groups for the Bears that is the deepest on their roster. For starters, the Bears have one of the best safeties in the NFL in Eddie Jackson (when used correctly). Jackson should return to his All-Pro form under their new defensive coordinator Sean Desai. Jackson is a ballhawk that can truly line up anywhere on defense and contribute.

The Bears finally got a consistent starter alongside Jackson as they brought back Tashaun Gipson for the second season in a row. Gipson is another safety who excels in coverage and will do very well in Desai’s two-deep zone scheme that he will be running plenty of. Like Jackson, Gipson can line up in the box or cover deep as well. He’s versatile and a good veteran to have starting.

Behind these two is where the Bears are very comfortable. The Bears have both DeAndre Houston-Carson and Deon Bush behind these two who have been with the Bears for years and know Pagano’s scheme very well. These two are additionally great special teamers and always seem to make plays when they get a chance on defense. Bush specifically played very well in the 2018 playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

After them, the Bears have two veterans who are also solid special teamers in Marqui Christian and Jordan Lucas. One of these two will likely get cut, but regardless, this depth is extremely impressive and is probably the best position group if Jackson goes back to his All-Pro form.
