The Chicago Bears could regret cutting Riley Ridley this year

The Bears have a very, very crowded wide receiver room this year. Allen Robinson, Darnell Mooney, Anthony Miller, Javon Wims, Marquise Goodwin, Damiere Byrd and Dazz Newsome will be in camp along with third-year pro, Riley Ridley. Is there any room left for the former Georgia standout?

Look, Ridley is no dummy. He knows he’s in for some heated competition. He’s aware he hasn’t seen the field much over his first two seasons in the NFL. Ridley has to understand this is an enormous offseason for him, and one that could impact his future in a big way.

Whether or not he makes the Bears roster, Ridley will have a job in the future. He was a good enough college prospect to be drafted in the fourth round. Not only that but he was touted as a highly-skilled route runner. His brother, Calvin Ridley, would likely advocate for his services in Atlanta now that the Falcons are without Julio Jones.

Ridley is a good football player. He’s just taken a while to adjust. Ridley is honestly a perfect fit for the slot, but the Bears may not give him that real chance. There is so much competition around him right now that the Bears simply might not have room for him. If that is the case, he’ll end up on another roster and very likely will contribute as a team’s WR3.
