Allen Robinson is elite for the Chicago Bears but not in fantasy football

When it comes to Allen Robinson’s value on the football field, no one can deny that he is a true WR1 in the league. He brings plenty of value to the Chicago Bears both on and off the field. Even this season, Robinson has been a great team citizen. He has shown up on time, has not been a distraction and has clearly put in the work.

Unfortunately, from a fantasy football perspective, Allen Robinson has not been viewed as an elite option. He is not someone any fantasy football owner is going to draft in the first and sometimes even in the second round.

This has a big part to do with most leagues favoring the running back position when it comes to scoring settings. The days of Zero RB strategy being a focal point for many fantasy owners seems to be long gone. It seems like the strategy was a perfect approach for a few years, but has since somewhat died off. Now, you will see a first-round full of running backs. The wide receivers you might see drafted in the first round include Davante Adams DeAndre Hopkins and Tyreek Hill.

Prior to seeing Allen Robinson come off the board, other names usually will go before him. Julio Jones, Odell Beckham, Jr., Mike Evans and now probably Justin Jefferson all come to mind. This is why in some leagues, you are likely to not see Robinson drafted before the third or in some cases even the fourth round.

Using FantasyPros for prior year final-season standings, Allen Robinson was the 12th-best wide receiver in both standard and half-point PPR (points per reception) leagues. He was ninth-best in full PPR leagues. Only four running backs scored higher than him (including teammate David Montgomery) in full PPR leagues and eight in standard or half-point PPR. As you can see he is somewhat undervalued, but I’d still say not elite.
