Jaylon Johnson will be an injury risk for the Chicago Bears proven otherwise

The Chicago Bears had to cut Kyle Fuller this year due to salary cap issues. Otherwise, I think he’d still be here in Chicago. The team asked Fuller to take a pay cut, but that was not about to happen. The emergence of 2020 rookie Jaylon Johnson helped ease concerns about having to let Fuller walk, but Johnson is a huge injury risk.

Coming out of college, Johnson fell down draft boards because of multiple shoulder injuries. Unfortunately, he suffered another one in 2020 and missed the final three games plus the playoffs. Luckily, Johnson did not need surgery this time. He is reportedly fully healthy and should be good to go for Week 1 of the 2021 season. The question is, will he be enough? We already discussed Desmond Trufant and his risks, now the Chicago Bears have Johnson as a liability too.

If he is healthy though, then the Chicago Bears CB1 will likely be Johnson. Although he never grabbed an interception, he had 15 pass deflections in 13 games. During that time, Johnson was targeted 78 times. He allowed only 56.4% of those to be completed but also gave up five touchdowns. This defense needs Johnson to be more efficient and stay healthy or this team is going to struggle.
