The Chicago Bears and the Andy Dalton Saga

I’m not going to lie, I wanted the Chicago Bears to pursue Dalton last season and roll with him. Obviously, that didn’t happen, and Dalton signed with the Dallas Cowboys. The assumed backup had to take over as the starter when Dak Prescott went down with a season-ending injury.

I have nothing against Andy Dalton but he’s nothing but a filler at this point in his career. Although that might not sound promising, it’s safer than rolling with Nick Foles again. Dalton had a great chance to show off his abilities last year but failed to bring the Cowboys to the postseason. Although the Cowboys’ offensive line had their fair share of injuries last season, they still had a loaded offense on paper.

Dalton had an all-pro running back in Ezekiel Elliot. He also had other weapons with Amari Cooper, Michal Gallup, CeeDee Lamb, and Dalton Schultz. The Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the entire league, but that doesn’t just happen like that. The Cowboys have built that offense from the ground up and that process takes time.

The Bears did pick up some offensive pieces, but it will take time for everything to get into sync.

I think something everyone can agree on is the hype around David Montgomery. Towards the second half of last season, Montgomery was one of the most efficient running backs in the league. Montgomery will only get better and that will open up holes even more. Now throw in our best receiver in Allen Robinson with Darnell Mooney and Jimmy Graham.
