Chicago Bears Rumors: Allen Robinson may end up in Green Bay in 2022
By Ryan Heckman
What an offseason this has been for the Chicago Bears and their fan base. As if drafting a franchise quarterback in Justin Fields wasn’t enough, a division rival appears to be imploding.
The Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers continue their intense staredown and neither side appears to be budging. Bears fans are eagerly anticipating a season where they don’t even have to see Rodgers lace up the cleats once.
Could the Jordan Love era be on the horizon for Green Bay?
Well, regardless of the quarterback situation, the Packers may also have a pending issue on their hands with All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams. Recently speaking with local Fresno media, where he attended college, Adams spoke about potentially reuniting with his collegiate quarterback Derek Carr and signing with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 free agency.
The Chicago Bears could play a part in 2022 free agency for Davante Adams, Allen Robinson, and the Green Bay Packers.
With the rumors now beginning about a future without Adams in 2022, the Packers could have a couple of giant holes to fill next year. Fortunately for Green Bay, they could have the chance to have a do-over with one of their free-agent targets from three years ago.
Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson is entering this season playing on a franchise tag, but the likelihood of an extension being done in the next two weeks seems extremely unlikely. We could be witnessing the last season of Robinson in Chicago, based on some comments a few days ago.
Robinson recently appeared on NFL Total Access and responded to a question about getting a contract extension done before the July 15 deadline. His answer all but signaled he had zero confidence in a deal getting done.
If the Bears do not get an extension done with Robinson, their only choice next year could be to slap a second franchise tag on him — which would pay him over $21 million in 2022. That doesn’t seem like something the Bears would do, considering the finances involved. If Robinson hits free agency, he may not have to go far to find his next team.
Let’s say the Packers go into a full-on rebuild of their offense without Rodgers and Adams, assuming they both leave next summer. Remember, the Packers were one of the final teams in a bidding war for Robinson before he ultimately signed in Chicago.
With how badly the Bears have mishandled Robinson’s contract situation, it would not be shocking to see Robinson hit free agency and eagerly sign a deal with the Packers. Green Bay has seen just how good Robinson is, first hand, over the past three years. The interest likely hasn’t gone away.
To be able to stick it to Ryan Pace for not giving him what he deserves has to be somewhere in the back of Robinson’s mind. Next offseason could be his chance.
