Justin Fields must step up in training camp to prove the Chicago Bears right

It would be easy to just pick and choose a few players at the tail end of the roster who are fighting to make the depth chart. Although a few of those guys might end up on this list, Justin Fields is easily the most important one. Obviously, Justin Fields is not looking to keep his roster spot. No matter if Fields looks so good that he pushes Andy Dalton to the bench or looks so bad that network media guys will scream “told you so”, he is not going to be cut.

What is important though is for Justin Fields to prove the Chicago Bears, Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy right for moving up nine spots in the first round to draft him. As of now, everything sounds and looks great. I have a personal bias here as I had Justin Fields number two behind Trevor Lawrence in my quarterback prospect rankings.

That said, it has not all been rainbows. Fields dealt with some fumbling issues while taking snaps. A change was made at the center position to fix the issue, therefore it may not be Fields’ fault. The other area it appears that Justin Fields needs to work on was his communication within the huddle. Neither of these seems too concerning, but Fields needs to impress and prove growth from the OTAs to training camp.

Ideally, Fields not only steps up and proves that he is the prospect this franchise has dreamed about for decades, but he also proves to be the best of the three quarterbacks on the roster. Should Fields already prove he deserves to start over Andy Dalton, that is just a first glimpse that he will live up to expectations. I don’t expect that to happen by Week 1, but I do expect we see Fields start at some point in the season. Hopefully, not due to an injury or a poor record.
