Can Javon Wims find a way to remain on this Chicago Bears roster?
I personally would be surprised if Javon Wims sticks around this season. That said, I also thought he’d be cut last year. The team kept six receivers last year and shockingly, Ted Ginn, Jr. was one of the top three included with the starting group along with Anthony Miller and Allen Robinson.
This season, Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney are easily the top two receivers on offense. I would guess Anthony Miller holds onto that third spot, but it could go to the likes of one of the newcomers Marquise Goodwin or Damiere Byrd. As you have noticed, Wims has not even been mentioned yet and I’ve already discussed five other receivers likely to be ahead of him on the depth chart.
Those five seem like the obvious choices to be atop the depth chart. This leaves Javon Wims and Riley Ridley as the two most likely fighting for the final wide receiver spot on offense. As much as I’d love to see Ridley finally get a shot, it appears Javon Wims continues to be viewed as the better asset. Maybe things change in training camp, but as things stand now, Wims could be that last guy while rookie Dazz Newsome starts on the practice squad.
It would also not surprise me that both Wims and Ridley are cut and Newsome makes the final roster, but breaking his collarbone in June might limit his chances at pushing one of both out right away.
