Chicago Bears Training Camp: 6 Potential candidates for camp MVP
Jaylon Johnson could stand out as Chicago Bears training camp MVP this year
Now let’s look at the defensive side of the ball for a minute. I have a hard time thinking that any defensive linemen or offensive linemen can stand out enough at training camp to be considered camp MVP. If you are an offensive linemen, the hope is that your name is not mentioned. Neither side of the trenches get the recognition they truly deserve.
Cornerbacks on the other hand could definitely stand out. I remember Kyle Fuller standing out at camp often as Mitch Trubisky and other quarterbacks would throw interception after interception. Jaylon Johnson is a ballhawk but does not have an interception yet as he heads into the second season of his career. Johnson did have 15 pass deflections over 13 games though. I find it hard to believe he will go another year without picking off a quarterback.
With Andy Dalton coming into a new system here in Chicago and Justin Fields lack of NFL experience, I would think that someone in the secondary should have the opportunity to stand out as one or both is likely to throw a few picks as they try to be aggressive and continue to learn the offensive system inside and out.
