One of the biggest questions for this Chicago Bears team is at cornerback
Surprise No. 3: Artie Burns cements himself as CB3
Possibly the most questionable thing that the Bears brass has decided to do this offseason was part ways with veteran cornerback, Kyle Fuller. Fuller had been with the team since being drafted by Chicago in the first round of the 2014 draft.
The departure of Fuller leaves the Bears with a CB room headlined by second-year player Jaylon Johnson, and veteran Desmond Trufant. Johnson had a strong rookie season even while dealing with injuries. Trufant’s best days may be behind him but he is still a solid corner who can get the job done.
This leaves the third spot on the depth chart open to a few different names. I feel that Artie Burns sits at the top of that list. Burns was expected to be a contributor after signing him last offseason but an injury ended his season before it ever got started.
Burns spent his previous four seasons with the Steelers where he was mostly a productive defensive back. Behind Burns leaves a lot of question marks, guys like Kindle Vildor and Duke Shelley got exposed when asked to step in.
The cornerback position is one of the more fascinating positions to watch this year at camp due to how it’s anyone’s game for the last couple of spots.
