Although it has been a relatively exciting offseason in some respects, the Chicago Bears now have a firm answer when it comes to the Allen Robinson situation.

After receiving and signing the franchise tag for the 2021 season, Robinson will be making $18 million this season. However, there was potential for him to sign a long-term deal to stay in Chicago if the two sides could come to an agreement by July 15.

The deadline for a long-term deal has come and gone, as expected, and the Bears will now see Robinson play out this season in Chicago before testing free agency waters next year. Robinson is likely in his last season with the Bears.

Though the future of the Bears offense could be bright now that rookie Justin Fields is in Chicago, the unit will have to find a new number one wide receiver next year if Robinson finds a new team.

It is disappointing, but not a shock. Robinson and the Bears haven’t really communicated all that much when it comes to a long-term deal. In fact, the serious talks broke off almost a year ago now — last September.

General manager Ryan Pace has not seemed interested in bringing him back, for whatever reason, and now faces a tough future ahead. The Bears don’t have a first-round pick next year to work with, therefore any legitimate replacement for Robinson will come through the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft or via free agency.

The question for Robinson now becomes, who will sign him next spring? There are several teams that make a lot of sense, and the bidding for Robinson’s services is likely to be high. These five teams seem like the most logical fits for Robinson in 2022.
