Does trading with the Chicago Bears for Nick Foles make sense for the Jets?

When it comes to the Jets quarterback situation, they are hopeful they made the right choice by drafting Zach Wilson second overall this season. Should Wilson struggle, need more time to develop or just need a mentor, Nick Foles could be that guy. He has plenty of great experience and would make for a better backup quarterback than the Jets’ current situation of James Morgan and Mike White.

When it comes to draft capital, the Jets are also in good shape. The team has 11 draft picks next year, including two first-round and two second-round picks. Clearly, Nick Foles is not worth anything near that price. However, with two fifths and three sixth-round picks, something could be done to make a trade happen here.

If I am Chicago, I would be happy with a sixth-round pick. In fact, if it means saving that salary cap discussed earlier for Chicago, the team should even consider sending a future 2023 pick if it means making this move.

Some trade scenarios could look like this:

  • Bears send Nick Foles; receive a sixth-round pick from the Jets
  • Bears send Nick Foles and a 2023 seventh-round pick; receives a sixth-round pick from the Jets
  • Bears send Nick Foles and a 2023 fifth-round pick; receives a sixth-round pick and Lamar Jackson (CB) from the Jets
