Christian Jones returning could have Josh Woods on the Chicago Bears bubble

Let’s look at a different position, shall we? I have it projected that four inside linebackers will remain on the active roster. Now that Christian Jones was brought back, Josh Woods looks to be the odd man out.

In 2020, Woods played on 46 defensive snaps. That equated for four percent of the defensive snaps. Woods also played 273 snaps on special teams, which was 60 percent of the team’s snaps. Clearly, Josh Woods was an important role player for the Bears in 2020. He saw fewer snap counts the year before, but still participated on 35 percent of the team’s special team snaps.

Christian Jones on the other hand has been contributing everywhere he’s played. He has seen a snap share as high as 72 percent on defense while with the Bears. He saw as high as a 65 percent snap share while with the Lions. Last season with the Lions, Jones saw a 46 percent snap share and recorded 57 combined tackles (32 solos). With Jones here, Josh Woods is likely on the outs.
