Jordan Lucas might never play a down for the Chicago Bears
The last player to likely be on the Chicago Bears roster bubble as they head into training camp is Jordan Lucas. The Bears have six safeties currently on the roster and will likely keep either four or five of them. Obviously, Eddie Jackson, Tashaun Gipson and Deon Bush are the locks to make the final roster. I would assume DeAndre Houston-Carson is the other guaranteed safety to stick around. This leaves either no spots or one spot left for the Chicago Bears to keep around.
Marqui Christian and Jordan Lucas are the two names left and out of those two, I would expect Lucas to be the front-runner. Lucas was drafted by the Dolphins in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He contributed a little his rookie year, but not much. He saw an uptick in playing time on special teams in 2017 but really saw his playing time pick up after the Chiefs traded for him before the 2018 season.
Lucas saw 22 percent of the Chiefs’ defensive snaps and 47 percent of the special teams snaps. The following season, Lucas saw his role on special teams increase but his defensive snaps decreased. With his special teams experience, Lucas has an advantage over Christian and therefore is the more likely choice to make the final roster. He will have to prove himself at training camp next week though.
