Chicago Bears: 2021 53-man roster projection heading into training camp
Predicting the Chicago Bears 53-man roster: Safeties
The final position on defense to look into is the safety position. Eddie Jackson is back with Tashaun Gipson as the two starting safeties. There is no question here. Last year the team kept five safeties and I think they will again this year. Deon Bush is back and most likely the third safety on the depth chart. DeAndre Houston-Carson, Marqui Christian and Jordan Lucas will fight for the three remaining spots.
The hope with the safety position is that Eddie Jackson is able to hit on those game-changing plays again. Having Tashaun Gipson return should hopefully help. When Adrian Amos and Jackson were paired next to one another for longer than one season, Jackson flourished. He was solid in 2019 despite lacking those game-changing moments. Last year he truly struggled for the first time though. Having that familiarity with Gipson will hopefully help the two play better.
The promotion of Sean Desai to defensive coordinator might also help here. The Chicago Bears have struggled at generating pressure over the last two years under Chuck Pagano. Desai is rumored to be running a similar system to one of his mentors Vic Fangio. More pressure will help the secondary.
As of now, the Chicago Bears will be keeping five safeties on the roster.
