Chicago Bears: 2021 53-man roster projection heading into training camp
Predicting the Chicago Bears 53-man roster: Offensive Line
The Chicago Bears have finally made many fans happy when they released Charles Leno earlier this offseason. Honestly, it might be a bit of a problem for the Bears this year. Leno was not nearly as bad as many think. He was not great either though. To replace him, the team traded up to draft Teven Jenkins in the second round. Jenkins had a first-round grade by many analysts, including myself. The problem is that I had him as an elite right tackle prospect. I’m nervous about the left side.
Last season the Chicago Bears kept nine offensive linemen and I have them keeping the same amount this year too. The key with the offensive line will be who ends up being the starters. Continuity and cohesiveness are important when it comes to an offensive line. The Chicago Bears saw the line take shape late in the year last year and gel as a cohesive unit. The team needs to do that again, but sooner.
If I am Matt Nagy, my hope is that Sam Mustipher continues to prove himself worthy as the starting center. If he starts at the center position, then Cody Whitehair can slide back to left guard, James Daniels will kick over to right guard and Germain Ifedi can start at right tackle. This leaves Teven Jenkins to start his rookie season as the starting left tackle.
There are a few other names on the roster who will be fighting to find a spot though. Rookie Larry Borom, free agent acquisition Elijah Wilkinson and third-year pro, Alex Bars will be fighting to start as well.
As of now, the Chicago Bears will be keeping nine offensive linemen on the roster.
