Chicago Bears: 5 Players who could lose depth chart positions at camp
Chicago Bears rookie left tackle, Teven Jenkins could need more time
This one might be shocking to many Chicago Bears fans, but it has to be said. There is a chance, hopefully a small one, that Teven Jenkins loses his spot on the Chicago Bears depth chart. All signs point to Jenkins showing enough to play on the blind side, but there is a big difference between OTAs and training camps — especially for offensive and defensive linemen.
Now that the Chicago Bears are about to put their pads on and bang heads, everyone will be keeping a close eye on the second-round draft pick who many had a first-round grade on. I am not saying that I believe Jenkins cannot do the job. I had my doubts about him playing on the left side only because he has proven himself already on the right. Switching to the left is not an easy task, but Jenkins has the build and skillset for it.
Should Jenkins start to struggle at camp though, it’s possible that the Chicago Bears decide to move in a different direction.
To be honest, I don’t think the Bears have the luxury to make a change with this grouping. Now that Charles Leno is gone, who else would you start at left tackle? I have no faith in Elijah Wilkinson, Germain Ifedi or Alex Bars playing left tackle. If Jenkins fails to meet expectations in training camp and preseason, the team might have to sign someone else.
