Chicago Bears: 5 Players who could lose depth chart positions at camp
Andy Dalton could lose the Chicago Bears ‘QB1’ spot to Justin Fields
Andy Dalton is the Chicago Bears starting quarterback — today. As Matt Nagy stated in his recent press conference, all we can worry about is “today”. We cannot worry about the past or tomorrow, just today. This is exactly why training camp and preseason is when Dalton could end up losing his spot on the depth chart. Justin Fields is exactly the guy to force Nagy’s hand too.
I am on record of believing we see Justin Fields by Week 5 of the season. I honestly don’t believe he will start by Week 1. That said, I would also not be shocked if he does. Fields is a competitor and he has been doing everything right off the field. He has also been doing everything right on the field from all the reports we are hearing. He has the ability to blow everyone’s minds and show his electric ability.
We need to remember though that Andy Dalton is a pro and has been in this league long enough to not be concerned about Fields. Fields has proven himself over and over to be able to handle the big moments, but he is a rookie. Fields will have to prove himself to a degree that as I said, forces Nagy’s hands or we will see No. 14 under center to open up the season.
