Chicago Bears: 5 Bold predictions from training camp
Chicago Bears Bold Prediction: Darnell Mooney shines more than Allen Robinson
Just like the Robert Quinn and Khalil Mack situation, I can easily see Darnell Mooney looking better this offseason than Allen Robinson. This does not mean Mooney will have a better year than Robinson. It just means that Mooney will prove he belongs as the WR2 in this offense and his rookie year was not a fluke. It also means it shows that he has taken another step forward and could become an even bigger impact this season.
Mooney is the flashier, more exciting type of receiver when we compare him to Allen Robinson. Seeing him catch deep balls for touchdowns in training camp is going to make people think he is playing better than Allen Robinson. This honestly might not be as bold of a take as it seems for this exact reason.
In his rookie season, Mooney caught 61 of 98 targets for 631 yards and four touchdowns. There were some touchdowns, or at least big gains, left on the field last year, but not because Mooney did not do his job. Instead, it was because passes were not put where he could catch them despite burning defenders. I have him scoring six touchdowns and gaining nearly 200 more yards this year.
