The Chicago Bears have now entered their second week of training camp and one of the bigger stories has been the absence of second-round pick, Teven Jenkins. Bears general manager Ryan Pace traded up to get Jenkins in the second round and is expected to be a big part of this offensive line.

So far Jenkins hasn’t been on the field due to back tightness. On the bright side, Matt Nagy is saying that he’s heading in the right direction. Now, I don’t want to cause a big stir over back tightness but I feel that this could be concerning.

The Chicago Bears are going to have to do something for this offensive line

The biggest question mark on this team, in my opinion, is at offensive tackle. The Bears drafted Jenkins to be a day one starter, seemingly at LT, which is quite a big ask for a rookie. On the other side of the line, the expected starter seems to be veteran Germain Ifedi.

Of course, Ifedi is returning from last season where he played all over the Chicago Bears offensive line at guard and tackle. Ifedi is a decent player but can be quite inconsistent at times. However, I do feel that Ifedi did a decent enough job at RT when asked to do so in 2020.

Something I disagreed with this past offseason, was letting go of longtime left tackle Charles Leno. While Leno can also be inconsistent at times, he would be an insurance policy for this offensive line unit. During Monday’s practice, the Bears had two unproven tackles getting the first-team reps in, Elijah Wilkinson and Lachavious Simmons.

The biggest concern to me is the absolute lack of depth on this Bears front line. One thing that Ryan Pace has done a poor job of throughout his tenure is developing a cohesive offensive line. One positive thing about the line is the interior.

James Daniels and Cody Whitehair are very good players but both have an injury history. The interior lineman seems like it will be Sam Mustipher who played well last season down the stretch but can still be considered unproven.

Next. The time is now to trade Nick Foles. dark

If I were Ryan Pace I would absolutely be looking to make a move to bolster this line, particularly on the outside. All it takes is one injury and these guys are toast no matter who is at QB.
