Chicago Bears Unofficial Depth Chart: Running Backs

Running back is another position with hardly any surprises. David Montgomery gets the starting gig with Damien Williams backing him up. Khalil Herbert is listed at third string with three others, including Ryan Nall, on the roster to provide depth. Tarik Cohen is obviously missing since he is on the PUP list.

David Montgomery showed in 2020 that he can be a key part of the Chicago Bears offense for years to come. He averaged 4.3 yards per carry while rushing for over 1,000 yards behind an underperforming offensive line. He also added 438 receiving yards.

Behind Montgomery, expect rookie Kahlil Herbert to challenge Williams for the second spot on the roster. The sixth-round pick showed uncanny ability to pick his way through defenders while averaging 7.6 yards per carry at Virginia Tech. If Herbert can develop into a solid back up the return of Tarik Cohen (hopefully sooner rather than later) will give the Bears an abundance of choices in the backfield.
