Chicago Bears: Surprises from the first unofficial defensive depth chart
Will the Chicago Bears see another All-Pro performance from Roquan Smith?
Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan will be counted on in the middle of the unit. Roquan Smith had an All-Pro season in 2020 despite not making the First-Team. He should expect to earn himself a very big payday based on the contracts Fred Warner and Darius Leonard signed this offseason.
Behind the starters, Josh Woods looks to be on the outs. He will need to perform well or hope to land back on the Chicago Bears practice squad. Joel Iyiegbuniwe and Christian Jones are currently the LB3 and LB4. Unfortunately, one of them could lose their spot to newcomer Alec Ogletree. Jones is a boomerang player for the Bears. He left, started elsewhere and now came back. Ogletree is a real newcomer though and has had some big moments in camp.
To wrap up this position group, Austin Calitro and Caleb Johnson find themselves as fourth-stringers. Neither will make the final roster, but maybe one or both can fight for a practice squad spot.
