Chicago Bears: 5 players to watch against the Miami Dolphins
By Joseph Herff
This week, we get to see Chicago Bears’ football for the first time since January of 2021. The Bears open up their preseason hosting the Miami Dolphins. To most, the preseason doesn’t mean much. On the contrary, plenty of fans still enjoy watching the Bears play any football as long as it is football.
Additionally, the best part of the preseason is seeing the players that nobody has heard of compete to make the team. Players can emerge once they finally get on the field and carve a role out for themselves. Some players are completely different in-game than they are in practice.
Here are five players to watch in the Chicago Bears preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins.
Chicago Bears Running Back — Khalil Herbert
The Bears used one of their 2021 NFL Draft picks this offseason to select running back Khalil Herbert out of Virginia Tech. This shocked some people as they already have David Montgomery, Tarik Cohen, and Damien Williams along with some solid undrafted free agents in Artavis Pierce and Ryan Nall. Herbert though could turn to be a major addition.
The versatile running back was a solid kick returner this past college football season along with being a lethal running back averaging 7.6 yards per carry rushing for nearly 1,200 yards and eight touchdowns. He additionally caught 10 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown.
We get to see what the Bears have in the explosive running back as a potential fill-in for Cohen as he slowly makes his return to the NFL after tearing his ACL last season. On top of that, he could be in line to fill the massive hole left by Cordarrelle Patterson at kick returner. Look for him to get some solid playing time this preseason.
