Chicago Bears Matchup: Justin Fields versus Miami Dolphins’ defense

I think it is obvious that every single Chicago Bears fan is going to be interested in watching Justin Fields attempt to prove he is the best quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft. Even if he does not look as good as some of his peers (Mac Jones, Trey Lance, Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson), he needs to at least look competent. He needs to look like a future franchise quarterback — one who has the potential of becoming great.

What fans cannot get too hung up on though is if Fields makes mistakes. Say if he throws for 200-plus yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, that is not necessarily a good or a bad thing. We need to understand that he’s a rookie who is still catching up to the speed of the NFL. That speed is very different compared to what he saw in college — even playing for a big program in the Big 10.

The important thing here is to see how Justin Fields processes the opposing team’s defense. What decisions is he making out on the field? Where is he placing the football? These are more important than just stat-watching. A more in-depth look at what we should be watching from Justin Fields will be published later this morning.
