Chicago Bears Preseason: 3 things Justin Fields must do vs. the Dolphins
Justin Fields needs to show good decision making for the Chicago Bears
Many analysts talked about how Justin Fields struggled to find his second read in college. Others talked about his windup with his arm. Both of these are literally just ridiculous notions. I am not a big fan of Pro Football Focus (PFF), however, it appears that Justin Fields did just fine by their eyes when it came to throws past his first read.
With his college days at Ohio State behind him, I am only concerned about what he does in a Chicago Bears uniform. What I will be looking for while watching the game today is Justin Fields’ ability to make the right decision. Did he throw it away when he should have thrown it away? Did he run when he should have run? Did he check the ball down when he did not have an open receiver downfield?
Next, and this is an important one, did he anticipate his throws? This will go into the next category also, but a quarterback’s ability to throw the ball based on anticipation is what sets apart the great quarterbacks from the average to poor quarterbacks. This is when many analysts will say that the quarterback threw the receiver open. This is partly true, but it’s also having a good connection with their receiver and trusting that they will get to where the quarterback throws the ball.
