Chicago Bears Players Whose Stock Rose: Notable Mentions

There were others who could have made this list. Rather than ignore them, here are a few notable mentions that also saw their stock rise, just not as much as the others previously mentioned in my opinion.

Khyiris Tonga, DL

Although Khyiris Tonga did not end up on the stat sheet, he looked great for a rookie, sixth-round pick who had never played a down in the NFL yet. Tonga got to play with the first-string defense and performed well versus the Dolphins starters who saw the field.

Prior to this game, I knew Tonga was doing well in camp, but I did not think he’d overtake Mike Pennel so quickly. Tonga has a very good shot of making the final roster now.

Alec Ogletree, ILB

Alec Ogletree let up a 50-plus yard reception early in the game to Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki. After that play though, Ogletree locked in and was making plays left and right. He was hitting guys at the line of scrimmage and had it not been for that pass he allowed, he might have ended up within the four main guys in this article.

Ogletree had six interceptions in training camp in less than one week of practice. He has a habit of allowing big plays but also making big plays. This is one reason he has bounced around so often throughout his career. At this rate, Ogletree is likely making the final roster, it will be interesting to see which inside linebackers he bumps off.

Tre Roberson, CB

Another defensive player who stood out was Tre Roberson. He only had one tackle on the day, but that was because he was hardly targeted while covering the opposition. He also contributed on special teams. This is important because he is not going to crack the starting roster, and depth players on the bench must be able to contribute on special teams.

Trevis Gipson, OLB

I almost forgot about Trevis Gipson. Gipson finished with two solo tackles and an assist, but he also was bringing some serious pressure. As a 2020 fifth-round draft pick, I am still holding out hope that Gipson turns out as a strong replacement for Robert Quinn in a year or two.

Now that we have had some time to digest the outcome of this game, who else did you think stood out as a positive?
