There is not too much room to move on the Chicago Bears 53-man roster, but a few positions are still open for roster battles with a few weeks until the start of the season. At cornerback, the Chicago Bears have plenty of room to discuss the depth chart.

Jaylon Johnson is locked in while Desmond Trufant and Kindle Vildor compete across from him. Duke Shelley is in the slot which makes four. Teams carry five, and often six cornerbacks, which leads to the question of who will fill as that guy?

Xavier Crawford could make Chicago Bears roster

Most assume that either Thomas Graham, the rookie or former first-round pick Artie Burns will take that job. Others like Tre Roberson from the CFL. However, it may be Xavier Crawford over all of them.

At least that was the facts on Saturday. Burns was out with an injury, and Desmond Trufant did not play either. However, once Jaylon Johnson finished his first-team reps, it was Crawford across from Vildor, and not Roberson, Graham, or any other option.

Beyond that, Crawford finished the game with nine special teams snaps. He played kick-off and kick return as well as the punt and punt return. On the first punt of the game, Crawford was on the outside as a gunner.

It is fair to consider that the rookie was behind and Burns was out. If Graham gets a step up, or if Burns returns, does Crawford fall out of favor? It is also fair to mention that Crawford was not targeted once on 30 snaps, which was the cleanest sheet of any player.

He played five snaps in the slot and 25 outside. He played every role on special teams including a role with the starters. If you were to make a roster prediction, today you would have to at least consider putting Crawford on there.
