Chicago Bears: 3 players who are fighting for a roster spot
By Evan Bruner
Chicago Bears Wide Receiver: Riley Ridley
Prediction: Makes the 53 man roster
The Bears had high hopes for Riley Ridley when he was taken in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Despite never having a season with more than 600 yards at Georgia, Ridley’s route running and hands were enough for the Bears to take a day-three flyer on him. However, nagging injuries have made it difficult for Ridley to make an impact in the NFL, appearing in only 10 games in his first two seasons.
Having such little game film to go off of makes Ridley a difficult player to evaluate. With more competition at wide receiver this season, the time is now or never for the 25-year-old. Ridley made a brief appearance in the Bears’ first preseason game against the Dolphins, catching one pass for 17 yards.
At this point, I would consider Ridley’s chances of making the team a toss-up. He has a good chance of grabbing one of the final roster spots, but it also wouldn’t be a surprise if the Bears let him go. He is a good enough player to make the final roster, but durability concerns could cause the Bears to go in another direction.
