Chicago Bears Wide Reciever: Javon Wims

Prediction: Does not make the 53 man roster

Javon Wims is another Georgia product who finds himself on the bubble entering the final weeks of the preseason. Wims has done ok for a seventh-round draft pick, but that may not be enough to secure him a roster spot in 2021. With the additions of Marquise Goodwin, Damiere Byrd, and Dazz Newsome, there is a lot more depth at wide receiver.

In past years, the Bears used Wims in the offense out of necessity, and now that they have better receivers to round out the depth chart, it will be an uphill climb for him to make the 53-man roster. Unlike Ridley, who hasn’t had the opportunities to make a difference, Wims has had his fair share of chances and just hasn’t been able to do much with them.

In fact, the two highlights of Wims’s career so far are getting ejected for punching Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in Week 8 of 2020 and dropping a wide-open touchdown in the playoffs. Wims didn’t record a catch against Miami but was responsible for a false start penalty that pushed the Bears’ offense up against their own goal line.  Unless Wims can show out in the final two preseason games, the outlook on his future in Chicago isn’t great.
