Chicago Bears: 3 Players who must improve in Week 2 preseason game
These three Chicago Bears must improve in tomorrow’s preseason game
There were a lot of highs to take away from the preseason Week 1 win. Justin Fields looked great, the defense got some takeaways, and the Chicago Bears have great depth at running back this year.
Obviously, there is a lot to still work on, such as the offensive line issues, the receiver depth chart, as well as some areas on defense. Specifically, there are a few players who need to play better in order to stay with the team. A couple of cuts were already made, and more will ensue, so these players need to step their game up or they could be looking for a new team by Week 1.
Chicago Bears player who must improve: Javon Wims, WR
Everyone knew Javon Wims‘ situation going into training camp this year, even Wims himself knows he is on thin ice. After a few debacles last season, the offseason additions at the position, and the emergence of Rodney Adams, it is safe to say Wims is on shaky ground. To make matters worse, last Saturday’s game against the Dolphins did not help his case.
He was held to zero catches and struggled to create separation the whole game. The most noticeable thing he did was a particularly bad false start penalty that seemed to cap off the entire Javon Wims package.
There have been high hopes for Wims with his size and skillset, but he has not been able to put it together. He has been given the chances, but he has failed to make the most of his opportunities. With guys like Riley Ridley, Dazz Newsome, and Rodney Adams trying to carve their role out, Wims needs to have a near-perfect game on Saturday against the Bills.
The Chicago Bears have given Javon Wims plenty of chances to show his skillset, whether that was last season as the third/fourth wideout, or this preseason so far. If he does not put on a show over the next two weeks, there is a strong chance he does not make the final roster going into Week 1 against the Rams.
