Chicago Bears Players Whose Stock Fell: Dazz Newsome

Dazz Newsome is a player I would expect to make the final roster or at the very least will start the season on the practice squad. Had he not broken his collarbone earlier this offseason, he might not be in this predicament. Unfortunately, missing time set him back a bit and it allowed guys like Rodney Adams and Jon’Vea Johnson to make their presence known.

Newsome saw some action last week and caught his only target for seven yards. What he needed to do was show something on special teams if he wanted to make the final roster and unfortunately, he did not do this during the Bills game. He has an opportunity to prove himself more versus the Titans, but with two punt returns, he only gained a total of 13 yards (an eight-yard return and a five-yard return).

Right now, I have Rodney Adams making the roster behind the likes of Marquise Goodwin and Damiere Byrd. Based on my prediction, that leaves one roster spot left and I’ve seen enough out of Riley Ridley to think he should be the guy while Dazz Newsome is stashed on the practice squad this year. Ridley doesn’t bring much to special teams though, which could lead to him no longer being on the team and we might see someone like Chris Lacy sneak instead.
