Chicago Bears: 5 players who have most to lose against Titans
By Ryan Heckman
Chicago Bears tackle Lachavious Simmons has a lot to lose against Tennessee
When the Bears were hurting much worse up front, Lachavious Simmons even received some work with the first team. There were times where Simmons had a real chance to prove he belonged in the NFL.
But, after the Bears signed Jason Peters and reactivated Germain Ifedi, Simmons’ chances of making the roster took a big hit. Now, Peters and Ifedi will likely enter the season as the starting tackles. Behind them are Elijah Wilkinson and Larry Borom, along with Simmons.
At this stage, it’s between Simmons and Borom for the fourth tackle spot. It is unlikely the Bears keep five tackles, although not impossible. One of these two will probably end up on the Bears’ practice squad and groomed for future success.
It is unclear whether the Bears will roll Peters or Ifedi out there on Saturday at this point, but if they do play, they probably won’t play a whole lot. Simmons will get a lot of time against the Titans, and if he doesn’t perform well, it could mean he gets cut following the game.
Chicago needs to find a dependable fourth tackle behind Wilkinson. Borom has had some great practices, and even though he’s a fifth-round rookie, there’s a good chance he winds up sticking around.
